Straight answers
How thick should my concrete slab be?
It depends entirely on the load — a garden shed pad and a slab carrying a tractor are different jobs. We confirm what the slab has to hold at the site visit and quote the thickness and reinforcing to match, rather than pouring one depth for everything.
Do you do the excavation as well as the concrete?
Yes. We run our own digger and tipper, so the digout, cart-away, hardfill and compaction are part of the same quote as the pour.
Can you pour a slab on a sloping or rural site?
Usually. Slope, access and ground conditions change how much cut and fill is involved, which is exactly what we assess on site before quoting.
Do I need a building consent for a slab?
That depends on what is going on top and its size — Gisborne District Council sets the thresholds. We can tell you when a job looks like it needs consent, but the consent itself is between you and the council.
How long before I can build on it?
Concrete keeps gaining strength after the pour, and weather changes the timing. We give you a specific date at handover rather than a general rule.
